josephcapriatiSegundo capitulo para las entrevistas previas al festival South American Music Conference en DJL, en este caso nos encontramos con el italiano Joseph Capriati quien nos deja varios conceptos interesantes respecto a la actualidad de la electrónica mundial.

Del Jardín Latino: -¿Cuales crees que son las principales diferencias entre tocar en un pequeño club y hacerlo en un festival masivo?

Joseph Capriati: -Pienso que las principales diferencias son los BPM y la energía de la música que los artistas ponen. En los pequeños clubes me gusta tocar no muy arriba, moviéndome entre el Tech House y el Techno más Deep, mientras que en festivales o grandes clubes prefiero subir la intensidad con Techno mas oscuro y enérgico! Por supuesto que esta es solo mi opinión por que hay otros artistas que tocan la misma música en ambos contextos, pero me considero un DJ muy ecléctico, miro todo el tiempo la pista cuando estoy tocando y trato de crear la mejor atmósfera y energía de acuerdo a lo que la gente busca escuchar, claramente no comercial, siempre mas underground alrededor del Techno pero con toques de Funky, Deep, oscuridad y explosión.

DJL: -Las últimas tendencias marcan al Deep House y Nu Disco como los estilos que más se están escuchando. ¿Como ves el panorama al respecto?

JC: -Yo pienso que la música esta en constante evolución y esto es normal por que después de un tiempo los artistas buscan cambiar su sonido para hacer la diferencia, como se esta viendo en los últimos tiempos, también se están mezclando sonidos viejos con nuevos. Para la masa este es el momento del Tech House y el Deep, tal ves el año que viene puede volver el Old Techno, etc, etc. Veremos que pasa en el futuro, pero me parece que un verdadero artista tiene que hacer el sonido que encuentra en sí mismo, no seguir la moda del momento, porque la música cambia constantemente. Y un artista para quedar en los anales de la historia tiene que ser auténtico consigo mismo y hacer lo que considere correcto, ya sea con elecciones que luego serán correctas, o con las que no…

DJL: – ¿Cómo es el presente de la escena musical electrónica de tu país?

JC: -En Italia en los últimos 5 años la escena ha madurado mucho. En el pasado el país tenía un importante sector dedicado a lo comercial y otra parte más House, el Techno era mirado como música para unos pocos. Ahora hay una escena interesante y buenas fiestas, por supuesto hay ciudades más culturizadas que otras y la calidad de las fiestas depende en gran parte de quien sea el organizador. Pienso que mi ciudad (Napoles) es la más importante hablando de Techno, hay montón de buenas fiestas y locaciones, además la gente va a bailar por la música, no por moda! También hay otras ciudades donde viví grandes fiestas, como Roma, Florencia y Riccione.

DJL: -¿Cúales son tus proyectos de aquí a fin de año?

JC: -Me encuentro preparando mi primer álbum desde hace 4 meses, tiene como fecha de lanzamiento el mes de Enero próximo, creo. Incluirá varios estilos musicales, como Techno, Minimal, Tech House, Electronica, Chill Out, Break Beat… es una manera de abrir mi mente, cruzar las barreras de mi cultura musical y hacer que la gente escuche todos los sonidos y emociones que tengo dentro! Entre Septiembre y Noviembre estaré editando 2 remixes para artistas que respeto mucho y un track en la compilación por el décimo aniversario de CLR Rec (el sello de Chris Liebing).

DJL: -Hace unos meses estuviste tocando en Argentina, contanos que recordás de esos días.

JC: -Estoy realmente contento de haber estado en Buenos Aires en Mayo, primero por que amo Sudamérica, y luego por ser mi primer ves tocando en Argentina. Disfruté muchísimo la fiesta, fue en un muy, muy hermoso club llamado Bahrein, la pista estaba completa y la gente muy prendida y con conocimientos de mi sonido. El staff también fue muy profesional y me hicieron sentir muy bien! Tengo buenos recuerdos de Buenos Aires y estoy muy ansioso en vistas a mi visita en la SAMC, creo que será un evento memorable! Los veo ahí!

Second episode of the DJL preliminary interviews for the upcoming South American Music Conference. We now encounter the Italian Joseph Capriati, who will leaves us with some interesting concepts on the present electronic music scene.

DJL: -What do you think are the main differences in playing at a small
venue and a massive festival?

JC: -I think that the main differences are the bpm and the power of the music that an artist is playing…In the little clubs i like to play not so fast and range between Tech-House Deep Techno, instead in the big festivals or big clubs i like to play moore fast with a Techno dark and moore energy! Of course this is only my opinion beacouse there are artists that play the same sound both in a little clubs and both in the big festivals but I consider myself a pretty eclectic DJ beacouse i look everytime the dancefloor when i’m playing and i try to create the best atmosphere and energy in terms of what people want to hear, clearly not commercial, always moore undergrond around Techno but with shades wich range from Funky, Deep, dark or pumping, and more.

DJL: -The latest tendencies show the Deep House and Nu Disco as the styles  that are been listened to the most, how is your outlook on that?

JC: -I think that the music is in a continue evolution and its normal beacouse after some time the artists want to evolve their sound to make the difference and, as we are looking in the recent times, also backwads the old sounds mixing it with the newest. For the mass this is the time of the Tech-House and deep, maybe next year we will come back to the old techno, etc, etc….we will see in the future, but i think that a real artist must do the sound that he has inside him, not follow fashions beacouse the music changes everytime and to make that an artist can be imprinted in the history must be himself and do always what he thinks to do, whether it will prove good choices, be it showing wrong choices…

DJL: -How is the present time on the electronic music scene in your country?

JC: -In Italy the electronic scene has matured a lot in the last 5 years. In the past Italy was in a big part commercial and in other part moore house, and the Techno was looked as a music for a few… Now there is a really good scene and good partyes but of couse there are cities more cultured and cities less cultured and the quality of the parties depends a lot from the staffs that organize them… I think that the city where i live (Naples) is the best one for the Techno style, there are a lot of  good parties and good locations and the people go to dance not for fashion but for music! There are also other cityes where i spend everytime great parties, like Rome, Florence, Riccione.

DJL: -What are your upcoming projects until the end of the year?

JC: -I’m still preparing my first album from 4 months that will be release in January i think… It will include various musical genres like Techno, Minimal, Tech house, Electronic, Chill Out, Break Beat…  is a way to open my mind and cross the barriers of my music culture and make the people listen all sounds and also emotions that I have inside me! Between September and November will be released 2 remixes for artists that i respect a lot and one track in a compilation for the 10 anniversary of CLR Rec (Chris Liebing’s label).

DJL: -You have been playing in our country a few months ago, tell us what
you remember from those days.

JC: -I was really glad to be in Buenos Aires in may, first because i love South America, and then because was the first time for me to play in Argentina… I really enjoyed the party, it was in a very very beautiful club called Bahrein, the club was full and the people was really hot and really cultured about my sound. Also the staff was really professional and they made me feel very well! I have a good remembers from Buenos Aires and i’m so excited and i’m looking foward to the SAMC…i think it will be a memorable event! See you there!
